ACTION REQUESTED
As the
issues regarding horse slaughter in the
United States increase, the moneyed
interests on the pro slaughter side are
standing firm to protect their financial
interests. From the slaughter
houses to the PR firms, lobbyists,
attorneys, and members of Congress
supported by their campaign
contributions rally for the continuance
of horse slaughter in the U.S., we must
speak up to end this practice in
America.
2007
marks a banner year for legislation to
end horse slaughter. We have,
before us, the opportunity to make a
difference in the finality of our
position. I am proud to
represented by Representatives and
Senators who care enough to put the
basic principles and interests of the
American people at the forefront and not
be sold down the pike by a money driven
industry where the profits leave for
foreign lands.
I hope
that you will join FlyingFilly, as well
as the millions of your fellow
Americans, in returning our country to a
land that respects and supports the
horse. For it was on the horse
that this great land was built.

Dear (Representative),
I
am contacting you today to address
H.R. 503, The
American Horse Slaughter
Prevention Act which has
been introduced in the 110th
Congress.
Although the bill was passed by the House
of Representatives in the
109th Congress on
9/7/06, as you know, time
ran short in 2006 and it was
not able to reach completion
in the Senate before
adjournment.
Slaughter in
the U.S. continues through
foreign owned countries
producing a product for a
foreign market. The
majority of the American
people are clearly not in
support of this practice
which is driven by special
interest groups and
individuals.
Slaughter is
not a humane end for the
animals which have helped us
build America to become the
great nation that it is. The
horse today provides us with
not only beauty and sport,
but is a valuable aid in
activities such as therapy
for disabled children. Its
role in America is not as an
animal raised to supply meat
to foreign countries, but as
a companion and friend.
It
is my hope that the bill
will be presented for a vote
early in 2007 and be passed
expeditiously with the same
favorable margin as it was
in the House of
Representatives on September
7, 2006. I ask
you, as a proud citizen of
the United States, to return
to us our heritage and
principles for a better
America and vote for the
passage of H.R. 502, The
American Horse Slaughter
Prevention Act.
Thank you for
your diligence in making our
country and our state a
place in which we can be
proud to be included as
citizens.
Sincerely, |

Dear (Representative),
I
am contacting you today in
regard to
H.R. 249, a bill to restore
the protection for wild
horse and burros so that
they may not be sold for
slaughter. The bill
has been introduced in the
110th Congress to overturn
an attachment which stripped
them of this protection.
As the slaughter of any
horse in the U.S. is a
practice which is not
supported by the majority of
American citizens, the
possibility that our
decreasing population of
wild horses could end up
with such a fate is an
unthinkable nightmare.
It is not the portrait of
America that we would like
to paint.
Slaughter is
not a humane end for the
animals which have helped us
build America to become the
great nation that it is.
Repeated efforts to bring
the practice to a halt have
been overturned and stalled,
time and time again, by
special interest groups and
individuals who find that
the dollar is more important
than basic American values.
Why do we allow this?
It
is my hope that the bill
will be presented for a vote
early in 2007 and I am
asking, today, for your
support. I ask you,
as a proud citizen of the
United States, to return to
us our heritage and
principles for a better
America. Please become
a co-sponsor of this bill
and vote for its passage
when H.R. 249 comes before
the House for a vote.
Thank you for
your diligence in making our
country and our state a
place in which we can be
proud to be included as
citizens.
Sincerely, |
